A Review of LG LE5500 LED LCD TV

Introduction and features

The fact with any LED lcd tvs is that they are basically lcd tvs that make use of LED back lights rather than the conventional fluorescent tubes for lighting. Panels of the TV remain the same and they even now employ liquid crystal diode technology in which the crystals get twisted for regulating the quantity of light coming through the screen.

When you consider the appearance, LE5500 is developed with rosewood color that many people love as they look fabulous in old fashioned homes. However they will not be suitable to the contemporary rooms. The TV is extremely sleek as it is only 1.2 inches in depth and weighs 63 pounds (slightly less than 30 kgs) without including the stand. The big and heavy stand can swivel up to 20 degrees from center and gives firm support to the TV.

The panel is lit by the LED and has an option for dimming. By using this option, bulbs can be brightened or dimmed in different parts independently for improving black levels. So it is no surprise that the black levels are very good indeed and possibly better than most plasma TVs available in the market at the moment.

The presence of light emitting diodes ensures less consumption of power as compared to fluorescent bulbs. This is good news for your light bill. The company has made most of the already low power consumption by including other features for energy saving. These include the ability to turn off the screen while listening to songs and also a smart sensor function which automatically readjusts the color and brightness of the picture when lighting in the room changes in intensity.

Now considering the connectivity, the TV has 4 HDMI inputs, access for USB 2.0, 2 component inputs and also one 15 pin D-sub pc input. The TV also has two 15 Watt internal speakers. That does sound a little small and hollow; however it is the same as other TVs of its class. The panel has TruMotion 240 Hz which has an extremely quick refresh rate which is great for sports viewing. This actually needed some motion blur adjustment and judder reduction for proper working. This is not a difficult task but may be a major disadvantage for less A/V literature consumer. A disappointment is that there is no direct remote control action for turning on or off the TruMotion feature. This has to be done with a difficult series of menus while you are switching between normal and sports viewing.

The TV's color rendition is quite impressive and the images are very realistic having wide color gamut. Viewing angle provided is terrific including the contrast degradation of about 45 degrees from centre which is good result. The unit also has wireless connectivity with many video websites that include YouTube and Netflix. It is also integrated with Skype which allows you to make free calls on internet without using your computer.
