How To Repair Dell E173fpb LCD Monitor Easily

Troubleshooting DELL E173FPB LCD Monitor with power blink symptom is quite easy if you know the right procedure to test it. There are two sections in the monitor that can cause power to blink. It is either primary or secondary section or even sometimes both sections can be faulty. So to isolate as which section is giving problem. I used an automobile 12 volt light bulb (brake light) and connect it between the 12 volt supply line and cold ground with the fuse removed. If the bulb still blink chances is very high the power primary section have problem.

Do not overlook the other voltages line as well such as the 3.3 and 5 volts. If any components shorted that gets the supply from the 5 and 3.3 volts, the power also may blink. If the 12 volts bulb lights up we can assume that the power supply is working fine and something shorted further down the line that makes the power supply to blink. If the bulb lights and you continue to check the power section, it will be going to waste your time. You should now concentrate on the secondary section circuit such as the four transistors C5707 that drive the high voltage transformer in the inverter board.

Just think these transistors like horizontal output transistor (HOT) in the CRT monitor that drive the flyback transformer where it worked so hard and chances for it to breakdown is very high. Checking the four transistors off board found one of them have a shorted reading with an ohmmeter.. This transistor can get faulty by itself or it could be some others components that caused it to develop a short circuit such as a defective high voltage transformer but all of the four high voltage transformers checked to be okay with ringer and ohmmeter test.

Now, here is the secret that I'm going to reveal. If you just replace the defective transistor only, chances is very high the transistor or another C5707 transistor will breakdown again. Usually what a technician does is to test the other transistors with either an analog or digital meter. If you use both meters to test the transistors then you have missed out on the faulty transistor because both meters won't reveal to you the hfe reading of the transistors. Only some digital meters have the hfe checking feature. In other words, you have to use test the hfe reading of a transistor. Although you can replace the other three transistors directly, why not we do some detective work to find the cause of the problem?

Using the Peak electronic atlas component analyzer, I could clearly see the different between a good and a bad transistor. A good C5707 transistor has hfe reading from 320 to about 390 but the bad one reads 467! The other two C5707 transistors have reading about 350. In the above case only two C5707 transistors were replaced and you save the other two. I had burn in test this LCD monitor for many days and it worked perfectly fine.

Conclusion- Whether you repair the DELL E173FPB LCD Monitor or any other model such as the E172FPB or E171FPB, basically the testing method is the same. You could also use this testing procedure on other brand of LCD Monitor too.

LCD TV - A Very Simple Buyers Guide

People tend to get caught up with the numbers game when shopping for electronic gadgets and appliances such as the television. Manufacturers use a lot of techno mumbo jumbo in presenting their products to the consumers. They ramp up the megapixels, the contrast ratio and any other product specification they can come up with because they know that the higher the numbers, the more people get interested. The funny thing, however, is that majority of shoppers probably do not even understand what those numbers mean and what they actually do for the product they are buying. The same techno mumbo jumbo usually gets lost in the translation and shoppers fall into the pit of analysis paralysis. Or worse, people end up spending more for a product that has been made to appear more advanced because it had more pixels on it.

Buying a flat screen television such as an LCD television should be one of the easiest thing to buy. This is especially true today as the lcd tv technology has advanced far enough that further enhancements in the features that count will not be as significant and perceivable as when the technology was still in its infancy.

There are only 4 things you should watch out for in buying a flat screen TV and they should not involve too much of the numbers.

PICTURE QUALITY. When buying an lcd tv, follow your eyes. Here is where most shoppers get too hung up on. They look at the specification sheet more than the LCD screen. But all you have to do to check on how good the specs are is look at the screen! Much of the numbers being thrown around by the manufacturers and dealers definitely would play into this but it should all boil down to how they look on your eyes. Megapixel count, contrast ratio and motion response should not matter if the picture already looks great.

POWER CONSUMPTION. Join the green movement and get the most energy efficient LCD TV that fits your wallet. This can be simply assessed by looking at the wattage requirement of the television. Go get the one with the lowest wattage. Again, many new models today are incorporating the environment-friendly principles into their features so finding units that are energy efficient should no longer be hard.

WARRANTY. This is pretty self explanatory. You should get one with the longest possible warranty coverage. I will advise against paying for an extended warranty but this is entirely up to you.

PRICE. With the speed the LCD TV technology is developing, and with so many players competing in the fray, you are likely to find units being sold at very good prices out there. Bargains are a usual sight in appliance stores and this benefits shoppers. Go take advantage!

The above list is probably the simplest LCD TV buying checklist you will see out there. Do not get too caught up with the technical aspect that manufacturers and dealers are trying to use to get you into buying that brand new flat screen. Buying a TV is simple--- follow your eyes, your wallet and your common sense and enjoy your new TV!

How Do I Pick the Right LCD TV?

The price and the size are the two most important factors among others in choosing the right lcd tv for you. Buying an LCD television can sometimes be complicated but as you shop, the different brands and size ranges will be easy to remember. In choosing a screen size, the space available in your home must be considered before hand.

Firstly, measure the area and location where you would like to place the TV. Determining the figure will help you decide on what lcd tv fits your home. It is also advised to take a look on the seating and furniture set up so that viewers will have an easy time watching. In case that you don't want to rearrange the furniture, you may want to get a screen size that fits your current configuration. But if you want to make some modifications, you better do it before purchasing the TV.

Secondly, calculate the distance from where you want to put the LCD television to the viewing and seating are. A standard of 10 feet away a 35 inch LCD TV will give a better view. For example, 15-20 feet distance from the television is needed. Just always keep in mind that the larger the television the longer viewing distances it needs.

Another factor to consider is the viewing angles. There are some models that produce better viewing angles. Simply put, the angle of viewing suggests an angle wherein the LCD television can be viewed from the side sooner than the value of the picture starts to degrade.

When you are in the store looking for an LCD television, concentrate and scrutinize the picture quality of the unit. It must satisfy your desire of wanting non-pixelated and clear pictures on your screen. The size must be what you are looking for. The LCD screen size can be easily determined if you stop looking and comparing it from other model units in the store. Just remember to focus on the unit you want to purchase.

Anti-glare coating of LCD must be considered when buying a television. This will help solve your problem on the outside light reflection. However, no matter what model you pick, the amount of light can still pass through that will produce glaring. Remember this when arranging the area where you want to put the television.

In choosing an LCD, the issue on HDTV (High Definition Television) may rise. If you enjoy High Definition Television watching, it is therefore a must that you look for a unit that has HDTV features. You should know the unit price is dependent on the brand and the size so you have to give these factors a thought before purchasing.

The two competing companies in LCD TVs are Sharp and Samsung. The brand is not really an issue so long as you get to purchase a television that caters to your needs and that it works well. Cheap LCD televisions are available in the market but availing these gadgets also requires hard thinking. Remember that you have to get quality for your money. In that light, it is best that you patiently look for discount promos or refurbished units on sale.

Best LED TV 2010-2011

LED TVs have rapidly become incredibly popular, and are clearly emerging as the new standard in televisions. Technically an advanced type of lcd tv, LED TVs have conquered the market enough to fall into a category of their own, and are poised to give older lcd tvs a serious run for the money. The technology allows for a greatly improved picture quality compared to plasma, LCD and DLP TVs. As the price gap narrows between LED TVs and the rest, be sure to check out all the features to choose the best LED TV for you.

Everyone is buying LED TVs, and the smart ones are making sure those TVs are wi-fi compatible. After all, everything is going wireless these days, so why not your TV? Out of all the manufacturers of LED TVs, the brands that stand out by offering wireless capability are LG and Samsung. Out of these two, Samsung is the brand that is generally considered the leader of this particular market.

On the other hand, LG's plus points include the fact that their TVs tend to be less expensive while also getting excellent customer reviews. While you're going wireless, be sure to check that your new audio and video devices fit the bill, too - for starts, you can check out Sony's great new wireless Blu-ray player which comes at an attractive price tag.

Thanks to LED technology, added to which is the new line of semiconductors, video images are sharper than ever - you will enjoy deepest blacks, crisp whites and all-round color vibrancy in an overall viewing experience that is nothing short of spectacular. Higher contrast ratios of 500,000:1 and faster refresh rates at 250 Hz and above mean that you get picture quality that is beyond compare. Lifelike images and crisply displayed motion, even for high-speed content, takes TV viewing into the future.

Not only is the picture quality great on the best LED TVs, but they are designed to use significantly less power. On average, these televisions use 40-50% less power than comparable lcd tvs, making them easy on power resources as well as on your wallet - you'll find yourself paying less each month in utility bills. What's more is that no mercury is used in making these TVs. Mercury is toxic to the environment, and is generally used in LCD TVs so it's great that this TVs are made without this harmful substance.

As a general trend, the best LED TVs in today's market have consistently been coming from Samsung, clearly at the forefront of this technology. Not far behind are brands such as Sony and Toshiba. As the competition gets more fierce, prices of these TVs will consistently be lowered, and quality improved as kinks and bugs are fixed in the performance. Generally speaking it is recommended to go not for the top of the line models but the ones right below, for the best price-and-performance balance to get the best value for your money.

In these cases the performance of the TV is almost always comparable to the top-end model, and features offered tend also to be quite similar, but the difference in price is usually quite significant. In the past months alone, prices on these TVs have been dropping significantly so clearly now is the right time to jump in and buy.

LCD Vs Plasma HDTV

LCD vs plasma HDTV - which is best? If you're looking for a flat-screen, slim and sexy display, to watch HDTV, you have a choice of two technologies, LCD and gas plasma.

Each has benefits and disadvantages and so each is more appropriate in specific
circumstances.

Historically, the LCD vs plasma HDTV choice has been fairly simple. If you wanted a
flat-screen that was about 40in or bigger, you had to choose plasma, otherwise you
should choose LCD. However, as LCD technology improves, LCD HDTVs are getting
bigger and most of the major manufacturers expect the number of LCDs they
produce to grow steadily over the next few years while the number of plasmas will
decrease. However, if you're looking for a flatscreen TV today, plasma still has a lot
to offer.

To understand the LCD vs plasma HDTV question, we need to look at the way the
two technologies work.

LCD

LCD HDTVs work by shining a light behind an LCD panel made up of a fixed number
of pixels. Each pixel is either red, blue or green and is switched on or off when a
voltage is applied to it. When voltage is applied to a pixel, it is switched off,
meaning that light can't shine through it.

The main advantage of LCD vs plasma HDTV is that LCD panels don't suffer from
what's called burn-in. This is a feature of plasma TVs where they are used to watch
TV stations with logos permanently displayed on-screen or where they are used for
video gaming with games that have static images such as a cockpit on flight
simulators. The image literally 'burns-in' the screen meaning that even when the
image is not present you can still see a faint trace of it on screen. So for video
gamers in particular, LCD is a better choice than plasma.

Plasma

Plasma HDTVs have over a million chambers which house one or a combination of
gasses. When a voltage is applied to one of these chambers the gas ionizes and
emits ultra-violet light. This light strikes red, green or plue phophors coated on the
inside of the chamber and a pixel emits this color light.

Plasma HDTVs tend to have better contrast than LCDs because, even when a pixel
on an LCD panel is switched off it doesn't block all the light coming through and
therefore the pixel isn't completely black. Plasma HDTVs also tend to have a wider
viewing angle than LCDs, as on LCD HDTVs the contrast and colour of the image can
change when the screen is viewed from different angles.

LCD vs Plasma HDTV conclusion

Technology is changing rapidly, but for now (July 2004) it's still true to say that at
sizes of 40in and above, plasma offers a less-expensive and generally better
solution. For screen-sizes less than 40in LCD is better. However, as LCD technology
improves and prices fall, this will change.

720p Vs 1080i HDTV

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That's not a huge issue as even scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this may be an issue.

However, for broadcasters it's a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and be hugely expensive for very little gain.

To answer the question, it's important to understand the difference between 720p vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV. A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a 'stepping' effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don't have this problem and so are better suited to sports.

ESPN puts it like this: 'Progressive scan technology produces better images for the fast moving orientation of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN, progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.'

Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy your next HDTV.

Plasma Vs LCD Vs LED TVs - What Are the Differences?

In the last 10 years, TV technology has advanced to a great extent and has brought in state of art technologies in providing the finest flat-screen TVs. The most important aspect of the technology used has mainly focused around the size, resolution and compatibility and with this, in the last 5 to 10 years there has been a gradual change in the choice and viewing expectations of people.

The manufacturers have now started to put in unique features in their flat-screen TV models making the product having a distinctive advantage of full film effect viewing along with outstanding sound technology. There are various types of flat-screen TVs in the market today, and in order that you could decide between Plasma, LCD, and a LED TV, you ought to know a bit about the differences.

Overview of Plasma TV: The display in a Plasma TV is made up of millions of tiny plasma cells, and to put it simply, these cells emit light to create a complete image on the screen when a precise voltage is applied to them.

Plasma TVs available now offer larger screen size than LCDs. The screen sizes of Plasma TVs that are commonly available in the market include, 30 inch, 42 inch, 50 inch and 63 inch models, while the lcd tvs are limited to smaller screen sizes, which range from 10 inch to 40 inch models. Presently larger screen sizes of more than 60 inches are being made available in the market. One favourable point is that, the LCD technology is more flexible, which allows wide variety of screen sizes to be developed.

Advantages on Plasma TVs:
- Plasma TVs are available in larger display screen sizes.
- Plasma has better black levels, and also the contrast ratio.
- Plasma TVs can be viewed from any angle, as long as the viewing angle is between 160 to 180 degrees. - Plasma TVs have top refreshing rate which captures every detail in a fast action scene.
- Plasma screen can display billions of colors, producing smooth gradations of shades, enhancing the picture quality to a great extent, making the images life-like and realistic, responding sharply to fast moving images.

Disadvantages of Plasma TVs:
- Plasma TVS do not perform as well at higher altitudes.
- Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
- Plasma TVS are thicker than lcd tvs and hence much heavier.
- Plasma TVs produce glare in brightly lit rooms though some advancement in technology has been made to correct this.

Overview of LCD TVs: LCD TVs have Liquid Crystal Displays, a technology which is seen being used in computer monitors, cell phones, and at times are found in camera screens. LCD screen was first created for computer monitors, and now with the application of the technology in LCD TVs, they seem to be a bit better when you are playing games on your TV. However, the choice entirely depends on the user, since some like the vivid colors in Plasma TV, which comes from its deep black levels.

LCD panels work with liquid crystal solution being sandwiched between two polarized glasses. When an electrical voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, the crystals rotate, and this changes the polarization of the light passing through them. A LCD panel does not generate light by itself. It just filters or subtracts its back light source to create an image on the screen.

Advantages of LCD TVs:
- LCD TVs have better longevity than the Plasma. The average life-span has been predicted as more than 30 years.
- The display of LCD TVs uses lower power compared to Plasma TVs, but has more consumption than LED. - The screen sizes of LCD TVs are available in various sizes starting from computer monitor screens to over 60 inches.

Disadvantages of LCD TVs:
- The TV has a very poor contrast level and responds slower to fast moving images, creating a blur.
- The prices of LCD TVs are higher than the Plasma, and because of the demand and increased production the prices are gradually falling.

Overview of LED TVs: The term 'LED' stands for Light Emitting Diode. It is an electronic component which emits light when a certain voltage potential is applied to its terminals. Though the TV using this technology is call LED TV, but the LED light source is used as the TV's backlight, while the TV screen is actually LCD. Though some current TV models use CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps), LED form of backlighting remains a far more efficient TV backlight system.

The Advantages of LED TVs are as follows:
- With LEDs as the backlighting source, the TVs have a far better dynamic contrast level than LCD TVs, since it uses a direct backlighting technology.
- LED TVS are ultra thin as much as about an inch in thickness.
- The power consumption of LED TVs are less than the LCD TVs currently available.
- Out of the flat screen TVs available in the market today, LED TVs are considered to be most reliable.

The disadvantage is that LED TVS are higher priced than LCD TVs, but prices are expected to come down with increased production.

The above is an attempt to provide a basic conception about the differences between the three technologies available presently in flat-screen TVs which would help a buyer to decide which TV to buy.

Choose the Right Stand for a 42 Inch LCD TV

Unless you're mounting your new 42 inch lcd tv on the wall or on the ceiling, you'll need a solid and reliable stand to support it. Many TVs come furnished with an appropriate stand, but some require that the stand be purchased separately. If the manufacturer furnishes your 42 inch lcd tv stand, and it meets your needs in terms of styling, you're in great shape. Because your 42 inch lcd tv could become an integral part of the room's decorating scheme, though, you may choose to purchase a stand that matches the needs of your viewing habits, your home, and your sense of style.

Because a 42 inch lcd tv is reasonably heavy, the most important requirement is that any stand must handle the weight of your particular 42 inch LCD TV and must provide a stable base in case it's bumped or jarred. For that reason, make sure the stand you purchase meets the unique weight and strength requirements of the 42 inch LCD TV you purchased. The last thing you want to have happen is for your new TV to become damaged simply because your stand wasn't up to the task. The owner's manual for your 42 inch LCD TV will specify all the requirements of a suitable and effective TV stand for that model.

There are a few other considerations besides strength, though. Let's look at a few other decisions you'll want to make to ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from your 42 inch LCD TV.

1. Determine if the stand needs to hold other audio-visual equipment? If you own a DVD player, use a cable converter, have game systems like an Xbox or a PS2, and/or have a home theater system, you may want your stand to house that equipment as well as support the 42 inch LCD TV itself. Make sure you pick a stand that has shelves or compartments for the equipment you own, or even may someday own.

2. Determine if the stand will position your TV at an optimal viewing height. The height of the TV is an individual choice - make sure the stand you select will place your 42 inch LCD TV at the height you want. If you can, find an adjustable stand that gives you some flexibility. If not, determine the right height for you and select an appropriate height stand. An easy way to calculate your optimal height is to sit in your favorite chair or couch and determine how high your eye level is. Once you've determined eye level, make sure your 42 inch LCD TV will be centered at that point. Many stands are pre-engineered to approximate an appropriate viewing level for the average person, but make sure you're comfortable with that height before you make a purchase. Some pedestal stands are adjustable; if you don't need storage space, check out a pedestal stand.

3. Check to see if the stand has integrated cable management. If you're buying a cabinet with a closed back, cable management probably isn't an issue, since you'll have plenty of space to hide cables. If you're interested in a pedestal stand or a stand with an open back, make sure there are provisions built in to hide all the cables you may have. If you have a home theater, video gaming system, DVD player, and other components, you'll have a large number of cables running from component to component - make sure the stand gives you plenty of room to store those cables out of sight. The stand shouldn't just house your 42 inch LCD TV - it should handle all the cables and components, too.

Once you've found the right 42 inch LCD TV, finding a stand suits your needs and fits you're your room's décor and design is important, too. Make sure you can enjoy your TV while it's turned on, and how it looks when it's not turned on.

Samsung LED LCD TV Features

The term LED stands for light emitting diodes. It is a new technology that has replaced the use of standard florescent tubes in televisions. Samsung LED lcd tv uses this technology to produce extremely fine images.

Samsung TV has received the esteemed "Innovation Award" from the European Image and Sound Association because of its outstanding features and extremely high quality. In Samsung LED television, the TV is based around their LED backlighting technology; more specifically RGB Dynamic LEDs are used for backlighting which enables local dimming thus producing sharper images. Moreover, the color contrast ratio, slimmer designs and environmental friendly features introduced in LED TVs have made them to be in high demand.

There are a number of differences between LED-backlit LCD Televisions and the conventional LCD Television and they are as follows:

Images that LED lcd tvs produce are livelier when compared to the conventional lcd tvs.
Due to the use of Edge - LED lighting the size of the TV is reduced drastically, thus the thickness of most recent released models is hardly an inch thick.
They are energy savers in that they use 40% less power as compared to the ordinary lcd tv that is of a similar size.
Due to local dimming capabilities the LED TV produces finer dark images by reducing the white light in the required areas.
The problem of viewing the TV from different angles is solved with the introduction of LED lights behind the LCD panels.
Price of LED LCD TVs is higher than the traditional LCD TV but the quality of the vibrant images that they produces enhances the viewing experience making the increased cost worth it!

Thus we can say without any doubt that the LED Samsung TV has enhanced home viewing and the enjoyment of watching your favorite films, programs and video games even if it does come at a slight premium.

Vizio 32 Inch LCD TV VU32L Review

The Vizio 32 inch lcd tv VU32L is a 720p widescreen HDTV ready television with 1080i capability.

The native resolution of this flat panel TV is 1366 x 768. Don't be disturbed that it is lacking the full high definition resolution of 1080p - on a TV of this size that resolution would be wasted, so Vizio has done consumers a favor by foregoing marketing hype in favor of providing sheer value for money.

The specifications of the VU32L are quite impressive and include:

- 1366 x 768 native resolution
- 1080i capable
- 12ms response time
- 500 cd/m2 brightness
- 800:1 contrast ratio
- Lamp life of 50,000 hours
- Uses 60% less power than a conventional TV of the same size

What is lamp life?
The lamp life is the time span a TV will be able to display a picture before a half level of brightness is reached. In the case of the VU32L, it is rated at 50,000 which on average is equivalent to abo8ut 20 years of usage (more than just about anyone keeps a TV for). If you use your TV for less than 6 hours per day then you can expect an even greater lamp life.

Pros
There are so many good things about this TV. You will find that images are very sharp and crisp, with deep colors. The 3:2 pulldown feature comes in handy as well. The TV works well in brightly lit rooms.

Cons
Connectors are only located at the rear which could be a pain for some people.

You can currently buy the Vizio 32 inch lcd tv VU32L for around $500 (less if you really shop around). It is a TV that will suit small living spaces like bedrooms, condos and dorm rooms.

If you aren't sure whether a 32" TV is right for you, you can click the link below to find out how to get a massive 50" plasma TV from Vizio without paying a cent.

Tips on Choosing LCD TV

An LCD Display contains a number of small cells called pixels and a fluorescent back light which project light on to a mirror which in turn projects it on the screen. The pixels are also responsible for the quality and sharpness of the image that you receive. Recently, with the maturing of technology, the ability to match the exact color tones has increased manifolds thus rendering the images more realistic and true to life.

Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Samsung LN40A650 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Philips 37'' Widescreen HDTV lcd tv digital are some popular models.

When buying your flat screen TV it would be useful to compare shops besides comparing brands. Also, check internet sites like Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart for good buys. There are good bargains to be had. Things, which were luxury items not very long ago, have become commodity items due to constant re-invention in technology. Manufacturers are in constant price war owing to thinner profit margins.

Past are the notions when it was believed that LCD is viable only when used in screens of relatively smaller sizes. With the arrival of panels like Samsung, Westinghouse Digital, Sharp and LG Philips all these ideas have been proved false.

1. It is first crucial to set a budget.

2. Decide on the size of the panel in accordance with the size of your room and the space available. A 27" panel is considered to be ideal but than can vary in relation with your specific needs.

3. Also consider what extra features you are looking for. Some LCD sets come with memory cards slots or camcorders etc.

4. Consider the speaker location on the panel. Some sets have speakers on the sides while some at the bottom.

5. Check the viewing angels according to the seating arrangement in your room.

6. Consider the picture quality you want. If you are looking for screens bigger than 30", a resolution of 1366 X 768 is recommended, for example.

Last but not the least, when you go to a store, talk to other customers who have come to make a purchase there to get to know more about the lcd tv you intend to buy. Also, the store staff would be able to help you with whether they have any models as special recommendations, based on their experience.

Another good thing about LCD TV is that it does not have the "burn area" feature which is a shortcoming of Plasma TV. In addition, LCD TVs has become more popular when it comes to portability. Review - Slumdog Millionaire

The general consensus is that Englishman Danny Boyle's (Trainspotting, Millions) venture into Bollywood results in a stirring tale of adventure, romance, and redemption. These themes are indisputably present, but represent only the base by which a much more profound and compelling story is told.

Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle's eighth feature film, delves deep into pressing modern issues like globalization, social partition, child labor, police brutality, entitlement, and cultural and religious discord-into territory far beyond the aforementioned themes. It's been widely described as a simplistic but well-crafted, "feel-good movie." This kind of pedestrian summation is an insult to criticism. On the contrary, the intensely serious themes of this film present many decidedly feel-bad moments for which the rest of the film struggles to compensate. But compensate it does.

Most audiences will likely be taken aback by the first few scenes which graphically depict our 18-year old protagonist, Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), being subjected to excruciating torture. Jamal is is a "slum dog"-a throwaway product of the dark underbelly of Mumbai, destitute in every conceivable sense of the word. Somehow, this inconsequential proletariat manages to land a spot on the Hindi version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?," and tears through the questions making it further than anyone dreamed he could. In utter disbelief of Jamal's unlikely success the host, played brilliantly by Anil Kapoor, has him arrested and tortured on suspicions of cheating.

The keys to Jamal's success are revealed through a series of flashbacks to various times in his childhood which occupy the bulk of the film. These sequences magnificently and powerfully chronicle the gut-wrenching story of a very adult life led by a very young child.

Boyle deliberately juxtaposes completely disparate scenes depicting pure, unabashed joy one moment and hellish, unspeakable horror the next. The ungodly squalor, greed, hate, and abuse act as foils to the many gems throughout the picture.

Much credit must go to cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle who's glittering, often-frenetic work behind the camera presents us with a realistic, sometimes troubling, but always gorgeous view of one of the most culturally rich and diverse places on earth.

As the story unfolds, it's quite obvious how things are going to end. The film's predictability, however, is one of its assets allowing us to absorb the true themes of the picture rather than being bogged down by unnecessary plot twists or gimmicks. The familiar formula settles into a supporting role while the director's poignant message of outrage, desperation, warning, caution and hope takes main stage.

Slumdog Millionaire is not simply a feel-good movie. It's better than that. We feel good only after we offer our sincerest humanity. And even then, we're never allowed to forget those crushing moments that didn't feel so good.

LCD TV Buyers Guide - How to Choose the Best LCD TV For Your Room

So you are looking for the best lcd tv? Hopefully this lcd tv buying guide will give you an idea of where to start.

What can seem like an easy enough task can soon turn into a confusing journey. You come across all these technical terms you don't understand and you get different advice every way you turn.

However, this can be made easier if you think about which are the most important issues.

So what should you think about when you are trying to find the best lcd tv for you?

1. What screen size do you want?

The screen size of an lcd tv can range from about 19 inches to well over 60 inches. So you need to consider where in the house you will be putting the TV, and the type of viewing you will be doing.

A smaller size is fine for the kitchen or bedroom, but you will want a much larger screen if you want the TV in your lounge for watching movies and sports. For bigger TVs, there are also a few good rules to follow if you are unsure about the best screen size for your room. Go to the website listed below for more details on this.

2. The quality of the high-definition picture

Are you going to be watching high-definition images? If you have a Blu-ray player or HD channels from your local TV company, then the performance of the TV for HD images is important. Not all LCD TVs are made equal, and so some TVs will show high-definition images better than others.

3. The quality of standard definition images

Many people still watch standard definition images, even if they have an HD Ready TV. If you don't have a regular source of HD images (such as Blu-ray), then you will want to make sure your new TV will process standard definition images properly.

This comes down to the quality of the internal processing inside the TV, and like with HD images, not all LCD TVs are made equal. Some LCDs will show non-HD images better than others.

4. The quality of the speakers

Many people use a separate sound system to listen to the audio from their TVs. If you do, then the quality of the on-board speakers doesn't matter. However, if you will only be using the built-in speakers to hear the audio then it is important to pay attention to the quality of the on-board sound. Some of these speakers can sound thin and lack bass - while other TVs have a much better, fuller sound.

5. Are there enough input connections?

This is often overlooked. When you install your new TV, you are going to want to connect all the external devices that you currently have connected to your old TV. Devices such as DVD players, Blu-ray players, cable TV boxes and digital TV receivers.

Before you buy your new LCD TV make sure it has enough connections, and the right type of connections, to install all your external devices. Your old devices may have outputs that are not supported by your new TV, so think about this before you buy.

So here are a few things to consider when you are looking to find the best LCD TV for your home. You will find many technical terms thrown your way when you are researching a new TV, such as native resolutions and refresh rates. But it's important to think about the issues listed above first and not to get too distracted by the marketing hype.

LCD HDTV - Technical Information

LCD HDTV has become a trend in the home entertainment industry because of its sleek and thin design. It has gained recognition because of its innovative features and impressive picture quality. HDTV manufacturers continue to progress and modify the good features and make it even better. However, regardless of the development, the consumers are given an option to purchase a good LCD HDTV at a very reasonable price, which suits their lifestyle and needs. Here are some pointers to consider in choosing an lcd tv.

When you shop for a television, first thing that you would probably ask is the resolution. Nowadays, 1080p resolution is the best for consumer home theater. Some companies promote a 1080i LCD HDTV that has an actual widescreen resolution of 1,366 by 768 pixels, which greatly differs from the 1080p. 1080p resolution has 1,920 by 1,080 pixels.

Sometimes specifications that are worthless like contrast ratio and pixel response time. These specifications are problematic because there are many variations and each is calculated in notably different ways. Sales people tend to focus on whatever specification calculation offers the most impressive looking result.

Regarding pixel response time, what you need to know is if a particular lcd tv is optimized to reduce the smearing of an image when showing a fast motion video. Currently, the 120-Hz display technology is the feature that best addresses this problem. It is a premium LCD feature but its advantages are instantaneously recognizable.

Contrast ratio is the ratio of measured light output when displaying white to its measured light output when displaying video black, also called the black level. There are several types of contrast ratio calculations. These are sequential, intra-frame, and dynamic. But these calculation results are often useless when comparing one LCD HDTV to another. It is better to focus on which model makes the deepest and darkest representation of video black because the lcd tv that has a darker black level has the more detailed, enhanced saturation, and more appealing image.

An LCD HDTV screen can produce more than twice the light output of a Plasma TV. The extra brightness that an LCD HDTV can provide helps in maintaining picture detail by improving the dynamic range of the image in a well-lit environment. To minimize distracting light reflections, a lot of LCD HDTVs have a matte finish. However, there are some new LCD HDTVs that are incorporating glossy top filters that enhance apparent contrast and color saturation by making video black appear pitch-black dark. Glossy LCD screens make a slightly crispier picture than a matte finished outside filter can produce.

An LCD TV produces a picture by channeling the output of a very bright backlighting system through a series of optical filters. The capacity to control an LCD TV's backlight can help minimize eyestrain in a dark viewing environment. In addition, the brightness level of an LCD HDTV's backlight correlates to its power consumption. Lower backlight output to dark-room viewing levels can result in one-half to two-third less power consumed. Also, lower backlighting extends the lifespan of the lamp module.

Lastly, you should consider video port needs, particularly HDMI. High-Definition Multimedia Interface is the standard for digital video transfer in home-theater. The main benefits are the clarity of a digital signal and the audio and video that are streamed over a single cable connection. Common appliances that can be connected to an LCD HDTV through HDMI are DVD players and game consoles. Most LCD HDTV provides two to four ports.

Look for these different features when you are purchasing an LCD HDTV. This technical knowledge will help you decide which LCD HDTV meets your needs.

LCD TV Features

Modern lcd tv sets have a staggering array of features despite the recent emergence of HDTV related features taking center stage. While HDTV related features can make or break an lcd tv, they do not stand alone: the venerable PIP, reverse 3:2 pulldown, and even highly technical aspects of the underlying technology such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters all work together to present the best possible viewing experience.

PIP, or Picture In Picture, technology has been around since the dawn of big screen TVs. PIPs are areas of the screen designated to display another video feed such as a PS3, home security system, or even just another channel than that which is being watched on the rest of the LCD TV screen at the moment. In short, the more PIP boxes an LCD TC generate, the easier life can be for families/offices with conflicting interests: Watching one channel, while surfing other channels, while the children play the latest video games, while the front door security camera lets one watch for visitors can all be possible simultaneously.

A reverse 3:2 pulldown is necessary for anyone planning on using older 24 frame per second technology with 30 frame per second LCD TVs. Without modern reverse 3:2 pulldown technology, anything that was not designed to present at 30 frames per second would quickly become distorted or appear to jump around the screen of an LCD TV. If one has ever watched a new broadcast where older CRT monitors or televisions are visible in the background with the have witnessed that strange distortion of what should be a very clear picture. This is caused by a disparity between the video capture speed of the camera and that of the display. While it is not possible to correct problems like this that are actually part of the video, it is possible for this effect to be removed or at least severely mitigated on LCD TVs by ensuring that everything runs at a smooth and even 30 frames per second.

Advanced visual presentation features such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters separate different colors into different data streams. The separation results in easier and quicker analysis of each of the scan lines prior to being displayed, which effectively translates to amazing picture output. An advanced color separation technology such as 3D Y/C digital comb filters also allows for individual colors to be corrected much easier. Not all display technologies are equal, and manufacturers sometimes need to tweak data bound for the LCD TV display in order to ensure proper presentation.

Of course, HDTV is the big buzz word in modern LCD TV lingo. Different resolutions such as 1080i, or 720p indicate not only the amount of pixels (colored dots) an LCD TV has, but also whether or not those pixels are updated one half at a time as is the case with interlaced (i) systems or all at once as in the case with progressive scan (p) models.

Last but not least, do not forget the connectors. The best LCD TV technology is nothing without high quality digital input to display.
