Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV - A Quick Review

LCD Televisions are all the rage nowadays due to its strategic pricing and amazing image quality. Compared to Plasma TVs, LCDs produce better images under ambient lighting. Samsung has in recent years established itself as the King of LCD HDTVs. In the United States, it is estimated that this company has over 70% of the market share when it comes to LCD televisions. Here is a quick review of one of its most popular LCD models, the Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.

The Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV has a improved 30'000:1 contrast ratio, which is pretty high for a lcd tv. It has a wide 178-degree viewing angle and comes with hidden speakers. The hidden speakers produces amazing audio quality through the SRS TruSurround technology. The power of the hidden speakers is best experienced through a Blu-ray player or a DVD player that uses a HDMI cable.

It is pretty easy to hook up the Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with almost any type of electrical appliances imaginable. It comes with 3 HDMI ports as well as a handy USB 2.0 port to connect to your camera or mp3 player. It also has a VGA input to connect to any laptop or computers.

The images produced are just astounding. They were crisp and clear even in a bright room. I have several windows in my living room but there were no traces of any light reflection on the screen even in the bright afternoon light. It also has a new improved, 5ms response time (an upgrade from the previous 8ms on older models). The remote and menu interface are extremely user friendly and easy to use.

HDTV Review - The Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p High Definition LCD TV

Once again Samsung has created waves in the High Definition Television (HDTV) industry. This time around with the Samsung LN40A550 model. This 40 inch 1080p LCD HDTV is ultimately a top of the line model. Who says being a top model means having a high price?

Price is one of the waves generated by the LN40A550 model. As a model with advanced features as it is, it certainly is not priced at one. You will surely be hardpressed to find any other 40 inch model priced as this wonder from Samsung. So, if finding the best deal on a 40 inch HDTV has been difficult in the past, then the LN40A550 is your answer.

What do you get with the Samsung LN40A550?

How about an incredibly sharp and realistic TV viewing experience? Yes, that is what you get with a contrast ratio of 30,000 to 1. Did I say incredible? Yes I did. No other model in its range even come close to what this unit has to offer, in terms of realistic viewing. Just be careful if you have pets around. They might easily be fooled by the realism. They might jump at the unit and try to grab that food being displayed on the tube.

Lacking true colors in your tube viewing dailies? No longer will you see faded blue skies on your tele. With the Samsung LN40A550, you get truly brilliant colors. Yes, none of them dull and faded skies. The skies are brilliantly and vividly blue in this Samsung unit. How did they do it? They have this Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp back lights to help them.

One remote to rule them all. Use the Samsung LN40A550 as the main entertainment hub in your home. How about that? Just use any of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs. There's even one on the side for easy access. Connect any of these:

Game consoles
Satelite dish components
Disc Players
Cameras
Camcorders
Laptops

Once connected, you can then use the LN40A550's remote control and content management interface to access the device and its contents. Yes, rule them all. Rule wisely.

Of course, it can't be all dandy and wonderful. I do believe in the saying "If it's too good to be true, then it's not true". Is that how the saying goes? You get what I mean, don't you?

Anyway, there is this minor issue with the Samsung LN40A550. If you are the type that uses USB to connect external devices into this unit, you will find that the USB Wiselink is somewhat limited. You can only use the USB Wiselink to view a slideshow of pictures. That's it. You can't run movies on it. You play music on it. Just Slideshows. Not very intuitive of them in this respect, I'd say.

All in all, I'd say that the Samsung LN40A550 HDTV unit is really worth the price you pay for it. Again, price is also among its main attraction.
